International Staff Serving at Qwanoes

Important Info

Most of our staff apply for a “Religious Workers” or “Camp Counsellor” work permit. Processing times for these permits can range from weeks to several months depending on the country you are from. Please email our staffing team (staff@qwanoes.ca) to inquire about processing times for the country you would be applying from. Some countries also require a “work visa” before entry into Canada. We strongly encourage and recommend all internationals to apply before the end of November (please contact us if this is not possible), so that there is time to process your staff application as well as you Immigration application.

Please note that as of 2025, there have been several additions to Immigration and Citizenship Canada’s requirements for international workers. Primarily applicants from all countries must have paperwork submitted and receive work permits prior to arrival. This means that all international applicants must allow adequate time for a staff application to be processed by Qwanoes as well as for Immigration Paperwork. We strongly encourage and recommend all internationals to apply before the end of November (please contact us if this is not possible).

As part of the application you are required to have an Acceptance Letter from us plus other personal information and completed documents; it can take several weeks to gather correct forms as well as submit them. Proof of funds and medical insurance is often required and recommended before you enter Canada. Some countries require a medical examination as part of their application. We strongly encourage that all staff have medical insurance when serving at camp.

We are permitted to provide a ‘stipend’ to reimburse some expenses such as living and travel (note the “Qwanoes Contribution” amount listed for each summer-long position) and provide room and board. Note also that you are welcome to apply to serve after the summer on Post-Summer Wrap-Up Staff or our Fall Staff Team. Please contact us for more info and for any questions you may have.

Testimonials

Yoel Venegas at Camp Qwanoes Small

“Hola… Qwanoes changed my life in ways I never expected. It was my first time leaving my country, Colombia, and the moment I stepped through the gates, I felt like I had found a home. The community is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced—so full of love, joy, and genuine care. Being part of Qwanoes brought me so much closer to God as I witnessed incredible transformations in the hearts of so many kids and youth. If you love kids and love God, give it a try—this place might just change your life forever too.”

“In 2020, during COVID-19, I came to Camp Qwanoes as the only international staff that was coming from abroad that year. I was extremely nervous and didn’t feel much confidence with my English but I soon realized how silly that was since all the staff here were so nice to me from day one! I soon made long-lasting friendships and realized how wonderful this community was and continues to be!”

Rica Nino at Camp Qwanoes Small

“Camp Qwanoes is truly special, it is a community that exemplifies how to live as Jesus did, fostering opportunities to serve in various capacities, learn from exceptional leaders, and develop leadership skills.  I am truly grateful for the privilege to serve the kids, youth and families in a different country alongside with such a wonderful team. And having to meet people from across different countries is extra special.”

Gabriel Dilly at Camp Qwanoes Small

“In 2019, God gave me a vision, and that day He clearly told me that I was called to be a missionary to English-speaking children. Ever since, I’ve been searching for ways to fulfill that calling. Then I heard about Qwanoes. I applied, and I can honestly say it was the best experience I’ve ever had. My faith grew, and I had the opportunity to share the Gospel in an amazing, family-like environment.”

“It was so cool how God brought together so many people from all around the world, but the amazing thing was how His Spirit allowed us to reach so many campers no matter what our culture or background was. Being one of the International staff made you feel like you had something extra to bring to Qwanoes- something that quite often opened doors with the campers.”

Samuel de Oliveira at Camp Qwanoes

“I never thought that high adventure activities could offer so much room for ministry and God has taught me so much throughout my 6 summers here. I love the chance I had to impact high school students in our leadership programs, how much they help me grow and develop as well as all the fun with our campers.”

“My time at Qwanoes was the the most worthwhile few months of any summer I’ve had! God used me in new ways, taught me bundles and fully stretched me. Camp Qwanoes was well worth traveling half way round the globe for. The passion for God and for kids that is shown by the staff is unrivaled!”
