A Story Still Being Written

Since 1966, Camp Qwanoes has been a place where big dreams, bold steps of faith, and countless changed lives have come together to create something truly special. What began with just a tarp for a dining room and a deep desire to reach young people with the love of Christ has grown into a vibrant, year-round ministry that continues to impact lives across generations.

Through every season, God’s hand has been evident—guiding, providing, and shaping Qwanoes into the place it is today. And the story isn’t finished. Scroll down to explore just a few of the unforgettable moments that have brought us here… and get a glimpse of where we’re headed next.

“Qwanoes is a beautiful place, a place of tall firs, of sandy beaches, of warm water and sunny days. It is a place God has given us to retreat to from the frenzy of our lives. A place where, in the peace of His creation, we can know who God is and what is really important in life.” (appeared in the Qwanoes Call, December, 1973)

The Dream Begins (1960s)

It all started in 1965 when two Baptist associations united around a bold dream: to create a place where kids could encounter the love of Christ. Just one year later, Camp Qwanoes opened its gates to 266 campers, with a tarp for a dining room and a passion that built something unforgettable.

Sky Ridge Lodge Being Built

Foundations of Adventure (1970s–80s)

From building Sky Ridge Lodge in ’69 to launching the CIT program and welcoming 1,000 summer campers by 1989, this era laid the groundwork for the fun, faith, and community Qwanoes is known for today.

A Season of Growing Impact (1990s)

The 1990s brought explosive growth—new cabins, wild new activities, and a 2,000 camper milestone. Music took off with Q-Town Records, and video memories began with Q-Town Films. The “Ignite Their World” campaign helped us build for the future.

New Millennium, Bold Vision (2000–2015)

From the launch of the Kaléo Program to the addition of Pacific Woods Lodge, a brand-new skate park, the SkyScraper, and more, Qwanoes continued to grow. By 2015, over 4,000 campers were joining us each summer—more than ever before.

Celebrating 50 Years (2016)

The summer of 2016 marked 50 incredible years of ministry. We celebrated with the creation of the Jet Stream and Beach Port, and parties that honoured the past while looking to the future. The 2016 theme said it all: “Just Getting Started.”

Ever Evolving (2016–Now)

From new activities like the Airwalk Village and Captain Q Escape Room to the launch of the enRoute discipleship program and the construction of the Dockside Boathouse, Qwanoes continues to grow and evolve. In recent years, we’ve been grateful to welcome more campers than ever and to see our staff team become increasingly global—something we see as a gift and responsibility.

Lives Forever Changed

At the heart of Qwanoes is the hope of transformation. Over the years, countless campers have encountered the love of Jesus, experienced renewal in their faith, and discovered a deeper purpose for their lives. Many have gone on to serve and lead in their churches, communities, and around the world.

Fueled by Generosity

None of this would be possible without a community that gives. Through prayer, volunteering, and financial support, individuals and churches have helped Qwanoes grow into a place where lives are changed—forever.

“Anyone who has not been to Qwanoes for several years will be astounded by the camps now being offered there. They are truly professional, with a full range of activities being offered. But still there remains before us the original and central purpose – to bring children to a personal knowledge of their Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

“… It is now seven years since the camp was moved to Crofton, Vancouver Island. It is hard for us to document the total spiritual effect Camp has had on our Convention but each church feels it in the changed lives of its own who have been to camp. …”

“I went in the first week of July as a director of a Junior Boys camp. I was completely new to the camp and really did not have too much confidence in myself as being able to put on a good camp for the boys. At the end of the camp, I realized what it was to rely on God in a different kind of way. I saw what real love is like – when Jesus is in it. …”
