Important Details
📍 Location
Camp Qwanoes & Southern Gulf Islands
🚣♂️ Overview
The journey begins at Camp Qwanoes, where campers will settle in and dive into hands-on kayak training with our certified, passionate leaders. These experienced guides are not only highly skilled but also deeply committed to making every camper feel confident, supported, and ready for adventure.
After honing their paddle strokes and rescue skills, campers will ferry to Thetis Island, launching into an incredible five-day ocean kayaking expedition through the heart of the southern Gulf Islands. Over the course of the trip, the group will paddle a total of 31 kilometers, navigating beautiful coastal waters, exploring hidden beaches, and camping at a scenic oceanside site.
☀️ Weather-Permitting
Note that although the kayaks may not be used in unfavourable weather conditions, the best weather conditions of the year happen in July and August when the SeaQuest camps are running!
🐚 For Peace of Mind
The water classification zone around Qwanoes is CLASS 1: gentle tours in non-challenging protected waters with limited wind effect, little or no current, easy landings, and ready access to land-based assistance. SeaQuest leaders have Paddle Canada instructor certification, first aid and CPR training, and swimming is supervised by a fully-certified lifeguard. Trips have a 5:1 ratio of campers to leaders.
🎒 Packing List
A full packing list will be sent upon registration or is available upon request. It will include items like an appropriate sleeping bag, etc.
📝 Please Note
Campers must be physically and emotionally fit, well-rested, and well-nourished prior to the trip, and able to take on the challenge of a multi-day overnight kayaking trip. Campers must pass a basic swim test at Qwanoes to take part in SeaQuest (or at a minimum demonstrate the ability to be comfortable in deep water while wearing a lifejacket).
